Description **Play in NReality v6c2 [n.infunity.com]. If you don't, the entire idea of the map won't work.**

Something a little different with the rotating laser drone mod. This time, the speed has been set to 0 so that the laser drones don't rotate, but fire continuously in one spot.

This is more of a concept map than anything. I'm not so sure if I like this map, so I was very reluctant on enabling ratings.

This idea has way more potential; remember, the laser drones can be set to point at any angle, so you could have a laser wall at 45 degrees. Or you could synchronize them so the wall moves around. Or even combine them with switches or area triggers.

The way this idea is implemented in this map... Just seems sorta bland to me. NR.
I'm still faving this for future reference, though.

I suppose you could

"The exit switch cuts of the lasers blocking the door?"

...What?

Couldn't you also

use this as a decoration?
The exit switch cuts of the lasers blocking the door?
...but lags more if you have a slow computer.

Yes, exactly Meta.

It certainly does look 100x better than anything you can do with mines and doors, though.

lord_day: I think he means making a wall of mines, putting a gap in the mines, and then blocking that gap with a door.

TRT_Bardock: The way the map played was one of the reasons I didn't like this as well.

the first thing

that came to my mind on seeing the laser wall was why not simply use a wall of mines. but then i saw the trapdoors blocking the laser n opening new passages.. n blocking old ones at times..

nice usage but apart from this rest of the map was kinda frustrating to play..

still 4/5 for the concept i think..
Maybe post a pastebin here with an example?

l_d

you can gain the same effect with a wall of mines with doors in certain places to change the length of the block. The laser wall is exactly the same just a little more interesting to look at

Feel free

Like i said, anyone is welcome to use this concept and make a (hopefully) better map.

Well, thanks for letting me know your opinions on the concept.
For example, a jumper where getting different switches opens up new parts of the map, in order to use new bits to make more jumps... etc. The difference atob between this and a wall of mines is that a wall of mines is a fixed size, while the lasers length can change. The idea I suggested needs immense planning, and I'll give it a go if you don't want to Meta_Ing.

Well

I'd suggest playing around with it a little more and seeing what you can get out of it, I'm not sure if you could do anything with this that *wasn't* gimmicky. Unlike the rotating laser which can change gameplay considerably, this is just a fancy way of producing a wall of mines and a few doors.

Oh!

I just thought of something I should have thought of before... Maybe I can make a jumper-type map using the concept instead. (You have to pull of a certain jump to get the switches in case you're confused...)

Yeah

I guess. That is practically what this level is though, but with some enemies that were meant to make it more challenging and fun (obviously that wasn't the case). Personally, I disagree with you on the whole "the laser wall feels tagged on and gimmicky" thing. I feel that it's the enemies and the rest of the map itself that feel tagged on and gimmicky.
why not just submit the wall itself and a few switches to demonstrate the idea?
If you read the description, you would see I was very reluctant on enabling them in the first place. I didn't like the level myself, and I feel this wasn't the best way to use the concept at all.

Why not?

Just because it's been scored low?

Pressing tab makes it less annoying, but the laser wall is really the only thing good about this. also the way the wall's been implemented makes it feel very tagged on and gimmicky.

Just press tab

And I knew I shouldn't have enabled ratings.

Not a bad idea.

But the constant laser sound is *very* annoying. The level itself is below average, imo.

Thanks.

I do too, I'm just not so sure about the map itself.

Well, if anyone has any map ideas using the concept, be my guest. Feel free to ask me any questions about it as well.

I love the concept.
