...yet not outstanding. Simplistic maps always have been a subject of controversial discussions. This one is no exception.
I see no black or white in this. In fact, this is one of the 'greyest' maps I've ever seen.

But that's only if it does something new or at least something that's rarely used. Otherwise, while it can be solid, it's not really homepage-material. Of course, this is just my opinion and I'm not the reviewer here.
Simplicity is one of the unfortunate things that went away, like DDAs, Door Eerie. They are rarely found today, but people today prefer maps with more action. The taste of mappers have changed over the years. That's all I'm saying.
As for this map, I gave it a 3.

a map has to be more than minimal and functional to be an above average starter map. Sure, this would do just fine opening a map pack, but can you honestly say it's one of the best openers you've ever played?
If so, fair enough. Me? I see no elegance in transition, no real stylistic flair or imagination, and nothing absolutely memorable about this.
Point being, this map could have been made by anyone in any map pack. And while it's certainly decent I don't see any reason to hold it aloft as a prime example.
