Description for muse. i like this, it's pretty interesting, and hopefully something a little different.

This map was featured on 2010-06-25

IWBTNINJA's map guerrilla stood out from the crowd by recreating the feel of the review the best. His map uses traps, but he employs them in a way that never results in cheap deaths. There's a definite feelling of progression as you play through the map, the traps get a little deadlier and a little more devious as you move through the labryinth-esque tile-set. — rocket_thumped

AGD

Well enjoyable - I liked how you implemented hidden enemies on this map.

AGD.

Perfect.

You are consistent in every way I could ever dream of.

Nice job.

Congrats on the win.

I was

referring the word "novice" to myself lol

He is NOT a novice mapper. He only has 32 maps and he already has four features.

Hidden Behind Walls

can anyone let this novice mapmaker know how to make false walls as used in this level?

Sure featured

Nice job!
A very good map and keep mappin!

Squibbles

As I said along the lines of previously - I know its an opinion, and I don't care what you make of it. Its what I believe and you (or others) can take it or not.

It got a little out of hand the previous nights I've realized. Although I still stand for my argument, I apologize for any discontent, and I will enter further contests, that was stupid of me (Probably was well pissed that night). Thanks and sorry once more.

awesome

this map is awesome although its pretty hard easy for some not me although very fun and stuff

"The significance of the results feigns in comparison to the sheer number of maps that were made, of which there were a mere three judges;"

You can use big words all you want, but they still need to make sense... unless you assumed no one would bother reading them anyway.
It's an opinion.

Yo

I hate this map. Jk, I'm just jealous that I didn't win.

They;re hidden

but with a very clear warning and spacing. It's intuitive rather than annoying.

ahh yes

nothing turns me on like hidden enemies.
Different to everyone else? Well its got a name Squibbles, its called opinion.

wait, what?

Super, you pretty much just stated that your entire argument was that you personally made a /different/ subjective call.

What?
Whether judged well or not, the judges' decision is always final! If you ever get out into real life creative competitions (art or music, for example) you'll very, very quickly lose face by saying ANYTHING bad about the decisions. You may be 'protected' by a computer in this contest, but still respect should be the byword.

I took the time to read all of these comments... I want my money back. D:<

everybody,

calm down.
I can't play it right now, but I will ASAP. (I didn't even see this when it first came out...)

.

I didn't say that the whole judging process was a mess, I believe that this winning map was a bad choice for first place, and that the feature was essentially not inclusive of what the contest originally set the criteria out to be.

In all honesty, ATOB's muse entry was a MILLION times more fitting of the real criteria of the contest, it was well thought out and had amazing enemy placement and design overall.

I'm sorry to 'shit all over your parade' but if you don't like my criticism of what has gone on here, just ignore me. I'd rather be hated for who I am and what I think than loved for who I'm not.

[]

I'm not folding over, I'm still disappointed that the judges didn't consider the relationship to the review a little more, but that's just my view.

I would have done things differently, and I certainly don't agree with the winning maps, but I don't think the judges did badly or that the contest was flawed to the point of it being broken in any major way.

It's all opinion, after all, and different perspectives.

I /do/ think that the contest should have been tidier, that the review could have contained less literal aspects and more ambiguity for interpretation, but it was a definite success and I'm looking forward to the next one.

lol @ Crescor

Not bothering to reply to that. ATOB its odd how you fold your argument over now when previously you were highly critical of it, possibly because I've got a bit too hostile have I?
And on the subject of how well this map fits the review, I think it's a perfect match, including the "you realize the journey is far from over" bit. I had the same feeling as mintnut due the oneways. Ok, got my two cents in. Happy feature.
Demo Data

I personally believed that the review would be the review posted as the Muse thingamajig, would have been a full circle kind of thing. Not that I care much, awesome map.
Or any other NUMACON competition, for that matter. The significance of the results feigns in comparison to the sheer number of maps that were made, of which there were a mere three judges; the conclusion would be completely at our discretion. This alone should have told you that the singular purpose of the competition was not winning, nor who won, and I know all of you know this. It is at least a little disappointing to see that such a large number of you can't put your pride away in lieu of an outcome that didn't go as you wanted it to.

During its run, it was incredible to see how many of you lauded the contest itself and how it inspired you and your entry. I want to know where that mentality went.

Oh yeh.

I get that sense too, mint, it just niggles me that it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I get all perfectionist, it's annoying I know.

ELLO
The top left, when you've just passed the drone and you drop down into the oneways qualifies for me. The first time I played it I saw the exit out of the corner of my eye and thought "aha! I'll just drop down this passage to victory. Landing on the oneways actually jolted me somewhat.

I understand that that is subjective, and also maybe a bit silly too, but yeah...

As for superstardom; you were disappointed with the administration of the contest, fine. Just don't go shitting all over someone else's parade. I think you'll find a better place for your anger would be here [forum.ninjarobotyeti.com].

Super

I did read it and it didn't make any sense at all.
As atob said, put some thought in it.
all the previous ones were great. It seems kinda stupid to me to quit all future editions of this contest because of one bad one. :/

Hmm.

Having the exit switch half way is a /very/ tenuous link to "far from over". The exit switch is often found long before you find the exit, so why would anyone assume it was near the end once you'd found the terminal?

That was the only part this map didn't satisfy for me, the rest is covered perfectly.

superstardom,

"It starts off unobtrusively enough, your ninja treading softly through lonely halls."-there are plenty of lonely oneway halls?
"However as you progress it becomes increasingly apparent just how frail your ninja’s hold on life is."-the traps progressively add new obstacles to the map.
"Around every corner lurks a dead machine, every room a trap waits to be sprung."-there is some kind of trap or enemy in almost every 'room'.
"Soon there is no turning back."-the trapdoors, the launchpad at the beginning.
"As you ascend through the twisted ruins,"-the structure of the map twists and overlaps itself, also the tileset.
"you realize that this journey is far from over. The story is only beginning."-there is still half the map to go after you reach the exit switch, and the difficulty increases after that point.

all the critical points of the review are covered, so in what way does the map not relate to the review?

Super.

the contest was judged fine.

Read the stipulation on the news page.

1/3 of the score = relation to review
1/3 of score = aesthetics
1/3 score = gameplay

So a map that's not as faithful to the review could win over won that was perfect in that regard if it trumped it in the other two categories.

If you're going to bitch, at least put some thought into it.
