Description	The blood pounded in his ears. He whirled around and thrust a spear into the monster, wincing with the pain of his cracked ribs. The monster roared and swiped at him with its huge, meaty paw. Too tired to dodge it, John felt the blow and fell to his knees. Darkness was beginning to consume his vision. He felt a roaring underneath him, and the earth opened up suddenly. The monster reared back and roared. John looked with blurry eyes on the creature. It drew back its huge paw, ready to deliver the final blow. Gore dripped from its mouth. Its fur was yellow and matted. It drew back its paw, and with its remaining strength drove its fist toward John. As John saw the paw coming toward him he thought just one thought. "Please," he thought. "Please." Then the fist struck, and went through flesh, muscle, and bone. The beast turned and walked away, its prey neutralized, its enemy killed. It would come for the meat later. For now, it would go back to its cave, and nurse its wounds, quietly waiting.
