Description Mountain

This map was featured on 2010-10-31

They say the mine is haunted. The mine that snakes its way under the mountain with the face, I mean. They say that one of the miners went crazy, and killed his fellow workers with a pickaxe. Thunk, thunk, a massacre. No one would go in after that. That's what they say, anyway. It's probably not true, but you can't know for sure. Anyway, it's Halloween, and what better way could you and your friends whittle away the hours? It's getting near dark now, better get going. — gloomp

But you probably get the point.
Something subjective can't be false or true, bad or good.

Second of all, it depends which perspective you look from while deciding to review a map. If you think the time spent doesn't matter and the aesthetic and trying to get something out from it , that is /your/ opinion.

Also, a map can be art. Pretty much everything you do is art. Art is something a human being produces or creates without the basic wills of surviving and reproducing.

Based on that, I think that what matters is; a map should have enchanced gameplay that goes well with the concept mapper trying to accomplish, while adding sophisticated aesthetics built around the whole thing and be reasonable.

Well, of course, that is my opinion, but that is the main thing we all look in a good map. It doesn't really matter that it is from Yahoozy or someone else which is a god-like mapper and an awesome person, or the time spent creating it, etc.

But of course, which is called the Placebo Effect [en.wikipedia.org], that you may disagree or may think it is unrelated,.. people get effected by the map is from Yahoozy [nmaps.net], and we all know he is respected and/or a very good mapper. Knowing that, if someone like the_flaming_viper [nmaps.net] made and submitted such a map, we all know it probably wouldn't get featured or rated at all, if so, it would be probably rated down.

Aaaand, keeping that in mind, it is perfectly normal that if you are such a person , the chances are more likely for you to get reviewed. But because you guys are not, including me, we need to get better.

As you clearly see, there is no one to blame but you.

that is the cutest fucking mountain

Garbage

this map just isn't a good example of that :p

<iouh> also see my comment on the featured map
<iouh> (the new one)
<gloomp> what are you talking about
<iouh> you said squibbles' definition of theory is wrong
<gloomp> i never said anything
<iouh> i listed its definitions and #'s 5 and 6 seem to apply to his
<iouh> wahahahaha

Theory:

–noun, plural -ries.
1.
a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity.
2.
a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as reporting matters of actual fact.
3.
Mathematics . a body of principles, theorems, or the like, belonging to one subject: number theory.
4.
the branch of a science or art that deals with its principles or methods, as distinguished from its practice: music theory.
5.
a particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it; a system of rules or principles.
6.
contemplation or speculation.
7.
guess or conjecture.

See #'s 5 and 6. There are other definitions of theory outside the scientific realm.
but that might just be because rates are disabled.

If I made this

exact same map, everyone would think it sucks...

But since we all know Yahoozy's maps are awesome, this is avant-guarde-ly awesome. I say this with no sarcasm... I honestly believe this to be true about this map.

Yahoozy makes maps that we lesser mortals only wish we could make. :) again no sarcasm.

I don't feel I can rate this thing.

It's funny how half of the people raging make maps worse than this. Also, just because a map doesn't include enemies and all your fancy-schmancy mechanics doesn't make it a bad map.

If you're so pissed at the reviewers reviewing the maps, go apply for the reviewer job yourself and do better.

Well, in theory

it's if it gets featured, then that's enough to qualify it as good enough, because the reviewer obviously thinks it to be so, and such a thing is subjective. So pretty much a reviewer can feature any map. In theory.

Coming from someone with four features, your comment doesn't carry much weight with me. Also I would never hold that the amount of time spend on a map is directly proportional to its worth. That's 0 for 2.

Also, I'm so confused about this. Does anyone actually know what the guidelines of a featured map actually are? Where is there a rule-book for reviewing maps? I'd love to see that.
i spend hours on my maps

--

this feature is what i've come to expect from the reviewing staff

Its funny when these maps get featured. The rage is fantastic.

!

if i would upload a level like this, get it featured then?
no!
so why get this featured?

Yeah, maybe Tunco.

But I'd wait for the author to actually tell us that. Until then, I'm labelling this a case of "people nodding and calling it art because a third party told them it was".

Meh.

From fotf's comment (enojoyed it in the pack blah blah) I have always thought of this as a map from a pack.
But it still feels great and I'm going to favorite it. It feels really simple and looks simple in a complex way, not spamming the tiles or the mines, it looks random indeed but it looks pretty much planned as much as random it is.

I don't know if I expressed myself correctly, but most of you who gave it zero has a unarful perspective of looking and rating the maps, what matters is this. And most of your sentiments are incorrect, while my manner is usually respectful and reputational.

Intuitive perspectives are of course one thing to look at art of making, since it's just pathetic that you shouldn't let your mouth open.

Although music is-

See what I did there? I feels random but it is just the way it should be.
Featuring something because it's a great go between sounds like decent justification.
I'd give those negative values if I could :p
there's no "xx-x" before it, nor is it in a mappack, nor does the description say "this is an episodic" or something similar. I would rate this based on its quality as a stand-alone map.

Some of you would

seriously rate this a 0 and deem it worthless, grouping it with the worthless spam created by simultaneously pressing a random letter and spasming all over the map canvas? It's boring in the sense of a map by itself, but you should recognise its episodic appeal. Not every map needs to tire the player out, and this map serves as a great in-between for more ambitious adventures.

i think

it is fun to play, but not more...
i maxed it^^

is there something special?
no!
boring gold placement
boring way under the mountain
useless mine
no enemys
just an ugly mountain with mines!!!
0/5
this just get featured because the author is Yahoozy... terrible!!!
i could feel the intended atmosphere quite easily, and even if the gameplay is minimal, the idea is good enough for me.

Very enjoyable :)

Is that it?

Cool.

Saw it last night -_-
Funny coincidence.

Excellent feature.
But this one doesn't worth to be featured, i guess.

Squibbles, it's my opinion. Call it wrong if you want but everyone has different ideas. And if Gloomp's been accepted as a reviewer, then he /can/ feature what he wants, as long as it's within reason. And I see no reason why this map isn't within reason just because some people don't like it.
