I already knew your answer and that you knew the gold wasn't "worth" getting before I asked, I was just asking for the sake of asking. Your answer was enjoyable to read nonetheless. Aesthetics > gameplay for you, interesting.
But based on your reasoning, I accept the map as a work of art (which is most of blackson's maps)

The gold is there because of aesthetics. If you notice, the gold is equally spaced in segments throughout the map. This is something I do very often. An object's use isn't measured by how it benefits the player, but the map instead. Sure that gold wasn't worth the time to grab, so why grab it? It's the player's choice whether he/she wants to explore the entire map, the way the author intended. This map is more technically correct than anything else. I consider N more of a canvas than a game personally. Aesthetics and appearance almost always come before gameplay when I map. When I'm done with the aesthetics I'll try to work on the gameplay a bit, but if it gets in the way of aesthetics I prefer aesthetics. This is why most of my maps are awkward.

I don't like how it looks much, and gameplay isn't great either.. what is with the fall at the beginning? and the gold everyone else mentioned? No rate.
