You didn't need an apotheosic staging to create a great map. You only need two things, two small things, but no less complex. And I'm going to take this as a perfect example. To conceive a noteworthy map, you just need a solid and interesting idea, and second, a neat and excellent execution. And this map is full of both.
I remember playing this long ago and enjoying it as a child competing against my friend taking turns the keyboard in real time, struggling to do just a /little/ better.
So, you mapper, remember these two things, Idea and Execution.

There we go.
The right way. The spike in difficulty after jumping the drones is a bit more extreme than I'd have liked. I suppose it would work without any mines, or with something else in their place ... Hm. Hard map to tweak though.
