It looks like

you were on to something with the top then sort of stopped. If you kept the objects that dense (or a little less) throughout with a more consistent enemy threat I think it would be better.

Then again, maybe not. I'm all for cool-down sections after the hardest part, but I think you exaggerated it a little much here.
