Issue number one in temporary form:
The Daily Rundown
November 30th to December 2nd

Earlier

Clifty, a relatively new mapmaker from Australia, brought out his new DDA to quite wide acclaim. His DDAs are quite possibly the most heralded of any new author's. Watch out for his stuff!

November 30th

BuddyLee's weekly map, Mezzanine, looks to be one of the best maps of the week. This well-structured map, complete with a superb demo is well worth your looking at.

Early in the day, Sendy released four new maps, one of which (In Soviet Russia, the Stairs Take You!) rocketed to number one after five votes.

One of our resident writers, Dave, started off his new series with Damn Dirty Apes!. Based on the first few maps, the series seems to be based on famous movies, and scenes and quotes from them. Dave released his second map pack earlier this week.

Interestingly, two maps were posted which reminded me almost totally of another author. These two homages, to nevermore and Zorn respectively, deserve your ratings!

December 1st

AsTimeFliesBy comes out with a screamer for the first good map of the day. Bravo!

Newbie mapmaker, Orange, came up with quite possibly the coolest, most innovative concept I've seen in a while, in this map.

lord_day, mapmaker of the moment, premieres an awesome new concept in his map RPG.

Late in the day, Sendy releases yet another map, in her short splurge of creativity.

December 2nd

Yet again, one of the better maps of the day is by lord_day.

Another yet again, Sendy, inactive until recently, comes out with another map, one I would consider very rootsy. I believe that racks up three top ten maps of the week to Sendy!

Maps of the Week

#1: Sendy - The Warrior's Path
#2: blue_tetris - I'll Be Back
#3:
lord_day - RPG
#4: AsTimeFliesBy - Open Your Eyes & Smell the World, Baby!
#5:
Sendy - Versatile
#6: BuddyLee - Mezzanine
#7: Orange - Chaotic
#8: Sendy - Place I'll Never Forget
#9: lord_day - Lockclimb Rapture
#10: Clifty - Firecracker

Trends

One of the most readily apparent trends, that of small minefields used to block off sections of the map, has been shown by many of the current trendy mapmakers. Examples here, here, here, and here.

Also ridiculously stylish currently is the use of blocky tilesets, usually with lots of open space. Examples here,
here, and here.

News

Make sure that if you haven't already, you Vote for The Dronies! It's definitely worth your while to take some time to sit down and put in your vote. Sweep wants to hit one hundred votes this year, and I think we can do it.

asian_gangsta, recognisable for his frequent complaints about snipers, has created a new NUMA username, AsTimeFliesBy, in an attempt to better his status within the community. Only time will tell whether or not this goal is achieved.

Two new map packs have been released this week: Sept's E., and Dave second super_hard column. Check them both out, give 'em a play, and tell the guys what you think.
