That is one of the most constructive posts I've ever seen on numa! Lots of good advice there.

Speedrun demo. Had pretty much a perfect agd demo going and got hit by a chaingun, so I got demoralised and did this instead. :P

Hmm.

Loops are generally pretty boring. If you look at the great race makers (I tend to use Riobe a lot in my examples, because he's awesome =P), they don't use loops by themselves. They often use loops with some interesting jumps, or broken loops that require maneuvering to get around, but never plain loops like the ones used in this map. They're just not that fun, even if they are flowy.

The left-hand chaingun I found was placed relatively badly, as it took a lot of luck to get down into the bottom-right without it killing you. I had to make it go past me, which is a difficult thing to do at the best of times, and harder when you're falling like that. Either way, you should have done a bit more playtesting on that.

Also, the spammed enemies are aggravating. One enemy, when used well, is a lot more interesting and threatening. When you're making a race, you want it to have close calls that work well when you're following the flow, and that are very hard to pass if you're not. You don't want five gausses in a clump where they don't do anything. If you are going to use loops, the center is never a good place to place enemies, because they tend to be least dangerous in the center, and also least interesting.

The rockets were also pretty badly done, again for the same reason. They don't cause a threat to anyone.

Another thing is gold placement. You want it to be in clumps that add something to the gameplay (such as a jump that isn't necessary to the completion of the race, but is flowy and slightly more difficult than the basic completion). If you are going to place it on route, use it in aesthetically pleasing clumps instead of just placing it as a line along the flow of the map, because that doesn't enhance the gameplay at all. Everyone loves the feeling of flying through a clump of gold every now and then, but spaced out single gold doesn't have the same effect.

Anyways, that's about it. I'd recommend downloading the RacePack [forum.therealn.com], which has some of the best examples of racemaking ever created, and playing through it a lot. There are a lot of great ideas in there, along with some solid innovations, and every map has fantastic gameplay. Take some ideas and lessons from there.
