I agree...
this is quasi-race-ish.
the first part is not a race, it's called a dooreerie, but you gave it flow, which is nice. Also, a race would have more flow to it, instead of jumping around.
Also, you do not have to do it just quite yet, but examine some good maps and look at their tileset. Try to get a theme going that's not too borish.
