anyways, map [nmaps.net]

...

I had no part in creating this contest at all.

And there's no narrative here, the map should speak by itself in that regard but yours relies on the description.

Semantics.

I'm assuming you wrote the review? In this case, there's no point in me trying to change your mind. I perceived the review differently to how you did, which led to different gameplay between our maps. So any "suggestions" from the review are subjective. I think the map's fine, although in retrospect the floorguards are cheap.

I might as well make another map to cover all bases, but honestly, I think the whole "aliens" thing conveys a stronger narrative than some nondescript tunnels; even if it's a little contrived, it still has some kind of imagination to it.

To clarify:

hidden enemies don't feel like traps by default, especially with no warning. They just feel frustrating and lend a trial and error feel instead of giving you a chance to evade them with your wits and perception.

It really doesn't.

This map is a trip. A journey if you will. It starts off unobtrusively enough, your ninja treading softly through lonely halls. However as you progress it becomes increasingly apparent just how frail your ninja’s hold on life is. Around every corner lurks a dead machine, every room a trap waits to be sprung. Soon there is no turning back. Only that familiar pale yellow glow urges you onward. As you ascend through the twisted ruins, you realize that this journey is far from over. The story is only beginning."

- You have a single hall, not halls plural.
- The part that mentions 'around every corner' suggests some kinf of tunnel system, there is none.
- The traps don't feel like traps.

And, most importantly, the review suggests the map has a strong narrative in terms of it's progression, this feels far too open and really doesn't convey that sense at all.

-

Be all defensive about it if you like, I'm just trying to offer you some advice. I think you could do a lot better if you used your imagination a little.
It starts easy enough as you enter the destroyed halls, with columns fallen in around you. Then, as you go through the halls, traps reveal themselves and make you feel more at risk. You're drawn on by the pursuit of gold, at both switches, in increasing importance. And the map gets more difficult as you realise you're going to have to go into the ship /and/ get back out.

Do you want me to make something with four tiles, because I can do that. :/

There's originality

and then there's not fitting the review at all.

Honestly, read the review while looking at this and tell me you honestly see in your map what's being described.

You could do a lot better, I think, but it's up to you.

It's fine.

SUBJECTIVEBLAHBLAHBLAH. Besides, originality always does well. ;)

Hmm.

Again, this doesn't fit the review. The review suggests an ascent through a ruined structure via corridors and with traps scattered throughout.

This is too open and abstract to paint fit.

Just my thoughts, the judges could fell completely different.

AGD.

Nothing against your map naming talents, but I like "And the Light Shone Through" more as a title. :P

I loved the two (?) hidden floor guards, the gauss and the rocket very much. The gold was excellent and the path was exciting. 5aved.
