I can understand this is your first map, but the map is pretty bad nonetheless. There is too much open space and the tileset is bland. You can do better, you just have to try more. :)

My first map, Crimson Skies, has an average 4 out of 5 rating from 16 people. I had inspiration fomr Kablizzy, LV, and a few others from the metanet forums to make the map. I had barely touched ned until then and now I'm starting to make maps. My second one, Death by Teal, also got a 4 out of 5 average rating by 10 people. (You can click my name to see the maps) Another good newcomer to map-making is testpilot1989. Most of his maps got 4 out of 5 or around there.

You see, it is possible to make good maps when you're new, you just have to find your niche. Playtest them until it feels right, and try to make most of the map feel used. :)
