If you're using windows::
Copy the map data, open notepad (usually found in start → all programs → accessories), paste the map data, and then save the file.
Note - Make sure word wrap (Format → word wrap) is unchecked first or else you risk corrupting the data.
If you're using a mac, the steps should be similar, but the program will probably be called something else.

Does your computer delete files when you shut down?
You could also try creating an account on http://pastebin.com [pastebin.com] and saving your maps there if that's the case...
