Description In making this map, my goal was to have very condensed gameplay. Where maps would usually have repetition in enemies and challenges, I wanted the gameplay in this map to get straight to the point, which meant making everything minimalistic. This directive provided me with several interesting design opportunities.

One such opportunity was in enemy use and coherence. Originally, this area also contained a horizontal thwump. I removed it when I realized that the seeker could do the same job better. By using the seeker in this way, I was able to make the most of the map's enemies, while also linking the bottom with the top.

Another opportunity I found was in the use of tight spaces. By ensuring that each section served its purpose, I was able to make the the map, especially the bottom half, much less awkward than it would normally have been. For example, the concept of the door-switch area was to create a tight mine-jumper in an environment constructed of long thin 5-tile shapes with mines on the end. Originally, this area had more jumps which led to the switch. Although this section was already much simpler than the full-map uses of its concept I was thinking of, I knew it could be made simpler still. Remembering its purpose, the switch, I kept only what was absolutely necessary to meet my design requirements: a tight jump over a mine and a mine on a long half-tile width area. With this change, the seeker gained a more prominent role in this section as well, which once more reinforced its central role in the map. By focusing on each section's purpose in this way, the map's I think I succeeded in making it feel quite graceful.

Mapping in this way was very rewarding. The overall concept forced me to think about what I was doing instead of just using the quickest fix. It encouraged me to find creative solutions to problems I would normally overlook but which are nonetheless important to address. I hope you enjoy it and may the
