Description | Friends, I need some cooperation from you.
I'm rethinking my current point in the mapmaking, I'm thinking of making another pack, apart from two or three that are already underway, and to reconsider my style, really, to improve and keep learning. To date I have some packages released on the forums (COMMANDOS, //stoneman, 9000, :3, CORaN and the Vehemence 4 maps), and I can appreciate that there are enough downloads of them. This can only mean two things, or that various people have downloaded the packs, seen and played them, or that only one person downloaded them all like 60 times. But really I have not many comments or feedback, and these are really important for me to know what I do well and what I do wrong, what you like and what does not. I do not even know who played and who not. What I want from you, if not too much trouble for you, is that if someone who has played some of my packs, could be kind enough to comment or post some feedback so I can improve as an author. What do you like and what not. I'm thinking of doing another column style // (doubleslash), if anyone has played the first one can be friendly and give me some opinion. I hope you understand the real purpose of this I ask. I want to keep learning from you, and improve as an author. Thanks in advance. btw, Pizzles, This is not to advertise my maps (already downloaded), just some feed. |

OH
and phrases under the maps are umm, beta-names for them, I just have naming-everything-mania :D or it's just because I copy-pasted it from txt file vault of maps on my laptop.

you may change whatever you want, as I haven't fully playtested them all yet.
also, the maps I've added must be finished - as they lack something somewhere, you know. One of them is just a plain tileset, but i'd like it to make it to mappack, so you're free to add stuff there :D

But, I also have 3 map templates, which are unfinished. I'll add them up also.

Could you please throw a link of it? :D

Check your PMs.

And you're welcome.
Sorry if I got a bit preachy there. ^^;; As for making different types of maps, go for it. But that's not style, I don't think. It's just variety. It helps, though. Try making a race. They're fun. :)

Wow, those are some slick demos.
As for the map: the idea is well-executed, and the visuals are solid. It's not much more than proof-of-concept on its own, but in a pack it works nicely as a breather map with a gimmick. You seem to know what you're doing. Just keep it up.

You lost me at "reconsider my style".
Style isn't considered, it isn't crafted, it's barely even real. Style is something that happens when you make maps for a long time. You find what you like about N, what makes the game exciting and interesting for you, and with any luck there are other people who find that stuff exciting and interesting too. I've seen so many authors waste their time "developing" a style, consciously, as if they're teaching themselves some perverted times tables. Style is unconscious, it's who you are, it's what brought you here, it's what brings others to you. You can't manufacture style -- it's the raw material of mapping, the natural resource.
Looking for critique is good, but you should be looking for it on a map-to-map basis. "I liked this mechanic...", or "I was frustrated by this jump..." are valuable tips. Asking NUMA at large for sweeping generalizations about your mappacks won't really be much help. Instead, find someone whose opinions you trust and ask them to critique a set of your maps, one by one. To phrase it in as much cliche as possible: two heads are better than one, but too many cooks spoil the broth.
Also, trust your own feelings about your maps. If you finish one, or look back on one, and something doesn't click with you, you might have been able to do it better. You don't even have to go fix it -- just be aware of yourself and keep trying new things.
Sorry to run on for so long; I'll be back with a comment on the map in a moment.

I did play your //stoneman series.
However I never bothered with highscoring them. I did however enjoy the themed style of them. It's not really much to go on, but I think it would be nice if you made a mappack using a completely different style that you're not used to. It could be fun ...

...i know its improvable but i really dislike that beginning jump to get both switches so im not even going to attempt getting a faster score...

Obviously delisted some. :v
