Description Mapping contest, read description !

I really love minimalist maps and i've decided to share my passion for the simplicity. This is the opportunity for famous or unknow authors to try making this particular type of maps.

Rules:

Do you know that the total building grid of a level is composed by 713 (23x31) squares? The concept of this contest is based on emptiness, it's the only way for me to judge objectively if your map is minimalism or not.

The only rule is to use maximum 100 squares. If one object or one tile is into one square, the square is used. But you can put how many objects/tiles you want in one square. If you put one object between 2 squares this counts for the square you want. it means you can put gratuitous an object between an empty square and an already used square (so you can also put gratuitious mines or other objects between the frame and the building zone).

You have to tag your map with emptiness and post it on Numa before 7 november. Only one map per author is allowed

Maps will be judged like this:

x/5 Aesthetic
x/5 Idea
x/5 replay value

The top 3 will win beautiful userbar made be me!

So good luck and remember minimalism don't mean 10 minute map, minimalism don't mean short map and minimalism don't mean easy map. Minimalism means beauty of simplicity.

Result

Rate are in the order:
aesthetic - idea - replay value
Congrulation at the top 3, it was really hard to rate.

1) LUKESV February
10/10 8/10 8/10
26/30
Tiles deserves a 10 in aesthetic, it's brilliant. The gameplay is very good and tricky. I'm just dissapointed that you don't use other objects and that the exit switch is so easy to get.

2) mistalker06 Sets of Teeth
8/10 8/10 9/10
25/30
The idea of the rockets is really nice and jumps are interresting. Aesthetic is repetitive but really nice too.

3) fingersonthefrets AL_PD
8/10 7/10 9/10
24/30
This map is full of little details that make it very fun to play particuliary the large use of differents objects but this is a little to convential.

4) Pig2 Clean Skin
8/10 6/10 9/10
23/30
There's a very pleasant and zen atmosphere in this map and a good replay value. With more original ideas this would be a brilliant map.

5.1) Chrdrenkmann Peril Distant Star
8/10 7/10 7/10
22/30
This look quite good and therer's a good use of enemies but the 4-8 tiles are very annoying and the gameplay is a little frustrating.

5.2) Geej15 fireworks
7/10 7/10 8/10
22/30
I like that you don't use any tiles, it give a special atmoshpere. The rocket plays good but I don't very like gold placement.

6.1) Sayko Empty but not dull
6/10 6/10 8/10
21/30
The power of this map is its replay value, there are some nice tricks. But there's not really a research for aethetic and ideas.

6.2) The_Mingler bitesize
6/10 8/10 7/10
21/30
Very particular map, i love the concept. It's fun to play but a little repetitive and there's no really aesthetic research.

7){bleh} Valley of Ashes
7/10 7/10 6/10
20/30
This is more a simple challenge, but the idea is good and it's fun to play. A little frustrating, too. I like the mines.

8) deep_blue Sure I Can (Shuriken)
6/10 6/10 7/10
19/30
The tiles are quite good but you overuse of objects. This is quite fun.

9) DDRave Cloud
5/10 5/10 6/10
16/30
This is more minimalism than expected, more a simple challenge, but this is quite fun.

6+6+8 = 20, therefore making it equal 7th rather than 6th.

Thanks a lot

good job to everyone

Fourth

Not bad... I'm happy with that. Thanks.

:D

5.2 thanks

3rd

awesome :) thanks

While I don't agree that 100 tiles is a good way of determining whether a map is minimalistic or not, I have decided to participate.

This was fun

Here you go mate!

C3-Bitesized [nmaps.net].
It's actually one of my old levels, but reading through the rules I only thought about this map :D

Enjoy.

I would, but

I hate mapping under limitations; I just like to let out.

Here is my entry. [nmaps.net]

I've used only 39 squares. I hope you enjoy itç

I'm like...

... sooo in man :D

Good Luck Everyone!!! :D

Minimalism

can be achieved in a variety of ways. You can fill a map and it still have a space-y feel to it.

I'm in.

sorry :p

ah... nvm. right now. the tiles make 131 alone. i cant use it.

I'm in.

Please

read the rules before asking question..
"You have to tag your map with emptiness and post it on Numa before 7 november. Only one map per author is allowed"

I'm in this.

shouldn't there be a tag to find the maps?

Yes

Just edit the tag ;)

can we use pre-posted maps? like one from five minutes ago?
