also...

...please don't compare numa to a court of law ever again...

tunco

you make me laugh.

hmmmmhmhmhmhmhmmm

just cut complaining, it doesn't really matter, sit back and relax, mmmhmmmm.

Yeah, cut the crap off, I'm telling this to everyone, this is a user database, not a big deal, so don't make it look like that, gees.

PyroCheese

/that/ is the goddamn best phrasing of it yet.

ok

in all seriousness, i feel for atob... while on one hand people might not even know that relatives/IP sharers actually browse this site, but on the other hand; people should make a more conscientious effort to maintain the validity and integrity of their accounts... I'd also like to add that I was banned for multi-accounting in 2006 and had my ratings reset and I got over it. If you're innocent then let it be a lesson to you...

And wordblam

the account*S* your sibling made?

You should probably email a NUMA admin via the forums with details of this asap.

(messaged one of your maps, too)
If you have siblings who play n, all you/they need to do is announce it.

It tends not to fly so smoothly when people make the claim /after/ being caught.

Siblings

I've read every comment and have to agree with Squibbles.

WordBlamCreator
Hmm... While I find all the argument to be valid
My concern is about the IP check... I'm worried that the accounts one of my siblings made might be misconstrued as "multi-accounting". But that's just me...

That is also what bugs me. Let's say a family only has one computer. A sibling might see their older brother or sister playing N and might take interest in it, creating their own account. They would have the same IP. This could just have been an issue with any multi-accounter.

seven_two:

thanks for reminding me ;)

@pyrocheese: actually, if you look at the situation, you're the one freaking out and flipping cusses trying to prove your point, while i'm at least remaining shill (msui).

Actually,

I can't see why this map has 18 ratings.
I know, it's a big thing to debate but ...

Irrelevant news, I just had my older accounts disabled. Own up before you get caught up in this commotion without having a space for yourself to explain the truth.
that mistalker was rating up Teanose maps with 5/5s.

hmm

i think palemoon's got the answer here.

tl;dr

If vote abuse were not an issue, multi accounting simply to create a new persona wouldn't be a problem.

Once new tools are implemented to catch vote abusers, we can ignore the "innocent" multi accounts and let you guys have fun with them if that's how you want it.

Until then, we can only work with what we've got.
"It wasn't a sure thing that TeaNose was a multiaccount, yet he was disabled anyway.

That's just unfair."

It might seem unfair, but we have limited tools to work with here. We're not going to go around disabling everyone who we suspect of multi accounting, but we might employ the practise for those instances when it's /very/ obvious.

Half the community called Teanose out for being mist, and, despite all of Teanose's pleas of unfair treatment and assurances that they were being honest, it turned out that the community was right.

If we /hadn't/ disabled Teanose first we'd never have identified "her" as mist (who had multiple multis and could easily have been abusing the vote system).

Two very important points you people need to remember:

One - Anonymous multi accounting can be bad for the community. Even if the user is simply using the account to post maps, if there's suspicion the user is a multi and is seen to be getting away with it it could inspire more malicious use (ie multis for voting abuse).

Two - Remember, if we disable someone it can be undone in a matter of seconds with a simple click. It's not the end of the world, and our admins are very active so you won't ever have to wait more than a few hours to resolve the issue.

-
Until Arachnid lives up to his promises of allowing us access to make improvements, we're stuck working with what we've got. Hopefully, once we've got access we can add admin tools that will make the worry about "innocent" multi accounts a non issue. Until then, we can't afford to take a more lenient route .

We're trying to keep this place free of abuse for you people, and to do that we have to come down hard on the types of things that could inspire the more serious forms of abuse.

It might surprise you to read, but the admins /do/ care about this place.
Not that the ratings matter, it would just be ironic.
i'm w/ squibbles. just read my defensive comment on teanose's map here. [nmaps.net]
Then you can read teanose's completely B.S. thank you here. [nmaps.net]
When I found out teanose was a multiaccounter was I upset? A little bit (worth a shrug), but I was glad I didn't potentially lash out at an innocent user. Any doubts I had I kept to myself. Keep your victories silent.
That in this instance, action was taken before evidence was gained. It wasn't a sure thing that TeaNose was a multiaccount, yet he was disabled anyway.

That's just unfair.

Arboreality

is always an option

totally agree.

especially with reason number 1.

@script

As far as AlOnE_AnD_bRoKeN having any reason to take offence at the accusations presented to him/her, think about it this way.

You are a student, a relatively intellectual student, and you want to transfer into an all-inclusive class. Being someone new, no one will be anticipating you’re arrival, and therefore your first appearance is you’re opportunity to make your first impression on the other students. You understand this. You also understand that it will, for all intents and purposes, determine the immediate and, to a certain extent, enduring attitude of said students toward yourself. However, in this class, the way to make any sort of appearance is to take a test. Because you’re not a complete imbecile, you realize this fact and decide to take it upon yourself to study for said examination.

You take the test. You do comparatively well (considering that many new students tend to fail their first test). Many of your newfound piers are offer their praise and encouragement. Others (including the professor) accuse you of deceitful, unethical trickery.

Unannounced to you, this whole shitstorm began just prior to your enrollment, and you are a victim of the caused paranoia. Your ignorance of the situation leads you to confusion, alienation, and a natural defensive position to uphold the fact that you have done nothing to deserve assertions from anyone so that you can maintain what little positivity you had gained from that first impression.

So, yes, you may understand that these accusations are a sign of your initial success in a new environment. But you and everyone else understanding this concept will not do anything to amend the wrongful allegation.

Also, besides the point: IT'S A FUCKING GAME!!

Something to occupy what little spare time you have to forget about the shitty outside world you may live in. If you don’t like how things are run here, then just go do something else; you have absolutely ZERO obligation to stay here and waste your life. Go outside, throw a ball, run after it and throw it again, get together with your friends, making closer REWARDING relationships that will benefit you for your life as a whole. Fuck a TREE, for all I care.

Do something besides bitch and moan about something unnecessary to your life.

I must say

I agree with you squibbles. I think its highly rediculous that certain 'new mappers' are being done in, possibly for things they didnt do. Sure suspisions rise and fall around them, but if you ask me:
If your 'suspect' isnt bothering you, then don't bother about them. Mind your own damn buisness, and start worrying about your own maps. I mean, seriously. I enjoyed playing TeaNose's maps quite alot, since thay were miststalker-esq, and since he left, it felt like he was making them. Let the moderators and admins deal with all the multi-accounting suspicions. Geez.
I love how you point out the shit that everyone ignores daily to the detriment of this community. I personally find it quite rude a way to welcome a new user with such accusations. It baffles me how some people can "justify" it.

OH

NO 13 RATES

heh

12 rates.

yeah

I'm trying my best to help improve this place. I have to say though, it is a little disillusioning when you think things are good, but a couple of weeks later it degrades again. :/

Oh well, gotta keep trying, hey?

btw

I really hope that we may some day be able to eliminate some of the shitlife that currently pollutes NUMA.
And that this may help that cause.
*distractions I mentioned on IRC are still an issue, at this time*
*I'll probably regret this comment when they're gone to distract someone else*
But I personally have to say as a reply to Mahi, that personal opinion to far was a mistake that Meatpuppet made.

:( I miss his maps...

@alone_and_broken

if you're a new mapper, you shouldn't take offense in anything people are saying, myself included. take it as a compliment that we think you're good enough to have been here before. it's because of people who actually multiaccount that we suspect new users to the point of leaving (which i've actually never seen happen). you obviously understand that our accusations are a mark of your talent, so i don't understand your motives for being upset about it, unless you're lying about your identity.

and another thing: i think the reason some people might multiaccount is to see if people really like their maps. as in, they feel underappreciated and want attention.
My concern is about the IP check... I'm worried that the accounts one of my siblings made might be misconstrued as "multi-accounting". But that's just me...

Personally i dont care if someone multi accounts, but seriously why would anyone anyways? I mean i can understand collab accounts and episode accounts but why pretend to be someone else when you have a perfectly good account to submit maps already? Thats just asinine. Honestly if someone wants to multi account i say let them it doesn't affect me in anyway. Also whats the big deal? Is it that someone with two accounts has the ability to rate a map twice? WHO CARES. I submit my maps because -I- like them, its not like getting rates makes my day or anything. I say just get over it and enjoy the maps.
Why learn to tolerate something when you could just as easily fix it?

This is NUMA.

Get used to it.

<@eevee> i just think that if we're going to be a community that prides ourself in being an awesome community, we have to be like other awesome communities in that we trust people, both new and otherwise :/

faved

I just went to google images and typed in my username...this was the coolest one there.
