RF = CUTE KID
what you guys think to be a "good" map I get accused of being someone else here?
I've looked through some archives, in comparison I'm awful. Not bad, awful. I think that yes accusations are okay in the appropriate time, but this isn't it. I mean as I said before I make terrible maps and you still think I'm not new?
Like mahi accused me of being one of the guys on the main page. Why? What did I do to deserve it?
Map to the best of my ability? I mean I didn't even learn how to make maps until /after/ I beat the game...yet having played /all/ those maps it's still assumed I would be ridiculously bad?
All I want is a fair chance to be myself and not be ridiculed over making "good" or "nice" maps (quoting people from my maps.)

IDK

i guess it doesn't really flow. plus it was really easy. speed agd
Demo Data

...nice

haha my bad

i'm just going to go sit in a corner, now

the irony

it burns!

oops

sorry script i didn't mean to delete that D:
i understand this is a hot issue but directly attacking other users with harsh language is not very nice, so please refrain from doing that.

I...

now that's just inconsiderate. :S
and as for accusing people here, on this map, I guess it's not that bad. I won't do it, but at least you're not actually posting on their map :s

wow.

just wow. you respond to a debate with "i should just kill myself now."
i recommend against it.
in the meantime, i think alone_and_broken is a multiaccount, as well as this other guy named molten.

also Mahi

you are greatly under exaggerating the extent of the comments. It isn't merely "you are x", it is "Why make a new account? It's just pathetic." and "Fuck, goddamit x. I can't believe you'd be such an arse to multi", as well as what is effectively mass stalking, with 5 or 6 users regularly commenting on the maps, repeating the accusation.

Making the accusation once is not harassment, you are right there.

Problem is, that's not what's happening.
name-calling was a little over-the-top and I apologize if you read it before it was deleted.

Allow me to point you, mahi (and anyone else trying to support that position),
a comment from alone and broken, who is a new user here.

"I'm so lost. What did I do wrong?"

Do you not think we should create the best environment possible for new users? Do you think that if people respond to your shit-flinging that that makes them a "hypersensitive loser"? In that case, I should just kill myself now.
in the past 12 months, 10ish profiles have been banned for multi-accounting. By the nature of the act, this means at most, we've had 5 multi-accounters. Probably more like, 3 (incidentally, I only recall 3 occasions of it occurring).

I know for a fact that there have been a fuckton more than /3/ people accused of it, so to claim that "usually" and "half the time" the accusations are right, is not only rather audacious, but also a flagrant lie.

honestly

if you think saying 'you are {author}' is a punishment, you must be some hypersensitive loser. like i said, if they are acutally new, there is virtually no fallout from such comments
and honestly, I have not once accused someone of being a multiaccount. I honestly believed that TeaNose, blue_desert, etc were all new authors. I was wrong. Do you see me hiding my face in shame and embarrassment? No? That's because you are no more or less intelligent if you are fooled by a multiaccount on an indie game website. If it's not a big deal, like you said, then why does anyone comment on it at all?
is actually a gross exaggeration. And honestly, yes I am, because frankly I consider this an issue of some importance, and doing that is the only real way to try and convince people.

And actually argue that point, please. If you can actually tell me /how/ it is that the harassment of new users isn't a vicarious punishment, and convince me so, I will stop my crusade, delist this map and not speak of it again.

If you can actually justify the behaviour which has been described as "justified", and I very strongly emphasise the quotation marks there, then I'll stop.

maxson again

it was an example. it seems to be the case in several cases.

conen...

are you saying im riobe? :P

maxson

you seem so worried about being polite and courteous, and protecting your self-image. doesn't really work like that. as script said, the probability of the 'new' user multi-accounting is so high, we should be able to challenge this 'new' user. if they are new, then there's no harm, and we all move on. its not a big deal, for the 10th freaking time.
It's true... i've already dropped out of the race people... and yes I am a pretentious motherfuck.

Oh I see mahi

so if someone copies, say, nevershine's style, and nevershine doesn't comment on their maps, they are obviously a nevershine multiaccount.

and also

it happens that new users don't get comments from the guys they are ripping off. like miststalker and teanose, me and mustardude, etc.

script

You cannot treat interactions with other human beings as equations. It just doesn't work that way.
or should i ssay... RIOBE-DRONE5000
QUITE OFTEN DOING SO IS A DICK MOVE.

Guys, you do realize that if you push away the best new mappers, this site really will go down the drain in the long term, right? All the good mappers will eventually move on with their lives one by one and there will be far too few new good mappers to replace them. Even if you think someone is a multiaccounter, privately tell an admin or KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.
...

basically, i'm willing to take the risk of alienating a new user in order to keep people from getting away with lying to the community.
i look at everything in terms of equations, so bear with me for a minute.

if (probability of them being a multi) x (benefit of calling them out, because then we aren't all being deceived) > (probability of them being new) x (benefit of them being new and staying with the community, because then we get more good maps) then I call them out.

the controversy arises because we all find different values for those variables, based on our personal experiences.

we don't pick any "male between the age of 18 and 24" or whatever, as in your example. i look into the guy's maps and profile. consider this: most new users maps suck, and most new users don't even know how to edit their profile. plus, most multiaccounters make too big of a show out of being confused about everything on numa ("question? whats a dda mean?") and make obvious grammar mistakes. I use this to come up with the net statistical benefits and losses of telling someone to gtfo and stop multiaccounting.

harass. harass.

its not harassing! its stating your opinion on who the author probably is, or might be. sure some people go overboard with it, but like i said, half the time they're right. and if it is a new user, they won't understand or get offended. if it isn't, they deserve more than so-called 'harassment'.

stop making this issue ten-feet tall, for gods sake.
Just keep quite about it... At least until you can kinda tell they are pretty fishy. Just say, "nice map, a good start" or some shit like that.
and all the popular members start flinging accusations and shit on your first maps. Does that seem like a welcoming environment to you? Would you stay if you were harassed from day one? I know I wouldn't.

trial? explanation?

the new user is not being 'punished' as you seem to think. we just say who we think it is, and thats that. you're trying to balloon this up into a shitstorm that makes people who accuse these 'new users' look like the evil people. it especially doesn't make sense, seeing that half the time they're right (miststalker, fireburnsfree, myself, etc.)

so really?

Haha conen

I tend to harass riobe about that on irc from time to time :3

oh

thanks for getting on that one before the raging arrived, mooney. :)
Part of the reason I don't really do shit here anymore. Also, with that being said I kinda feel like finally saying... Riobe's maps aren't good they just look cool... there I finally fucking said it!
I absolutely agree Radium, however the problem I have is that people are attacking newer users before any evidence of deception occurs.

It's like this. A bank robbery occurs in your local area, in which 3 people were shot fatally, the police are notified that the assailant was a male between the ages of 16 and 22.

The next day the police arrive at your door. You receive no trial. You receive no explanation. You spend the next 10 years in prison.

It just seems outrageously unfair that we vilify and punish those who /may/ have committed a crime, if you will.
forget numa, you should do that in a lot of aspects of life. Society needs more trust :(
you should still give new mappers the benefit of the doubt. How'd you like it if you have a talent for mapping and someone harasses you on every map about something you haven't done? Just be nice to people, guys.

also this is a map and so it has a place in the n user map archive, regardless of description (unless you linked an image of a dick, then i'd have to delist it)

Fuck the forums...

First off, I am a big fan squibbles. I love what you do, and I almostt always agree with the point you bring up; This being no exception. Back to my "Fuck the forums..." comment, I think it's good that people make maps with statements in them because more people see them ad more people realize right off the bat that it's not a playable map and that I guess draws attention... I have ADD sorry if that last sentence was a run-on and didn't actually make sense (I'm too lazy to read it myself).

Floated.
